Why did the Governor doubt the phone call from the Examination Board for correction in the paper? What did he do?
The Governor thought it might be a fake call. It might be a sort of signal for Evans. He thought the correction slip could be a kind of secret message sent for ‘Evans the Break’. He tried to verify the call. He held the incoming call and from the other line called the Examination Board. But the number was continuously busy. This means the call was really from the Examination Board because he had held the line.
