Where had Evans stayed after his escape from prison? What was the surprise that availed him when he entered his bedroom?
After his escape from prison, Evans had stayed at the Golden Lion Hotel. One evening he returned to the hotel after a stroll around the centre of Chipping Norton. He collected the key from the reception and walked up the stairs. He unlocked his bedroom door and closed it behind him. He stood transfixed when he saw a man sitting on the narrow bed. He was none else but the Governor of Oxford Prison.
